Ngozi Finette Unuigbe (PhD)

Ngozi Unuigbe brings over 12 years of professional experience in environmental law, policy and ethics. She has held several administrative and technical positions such as Environmental Policy Research Fellow, United Nations University – Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA), Member, Technical Review Committee for IUCN Congress; Contributor on Position Paper for the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice 19thMeeting; editor, Encyclopedia of Human Rights and the Environment (Edward Elgar);Editor, Natural Resources Management: Policy Directions for Africa (Springer); UNU-INRA Gender Focal Person in United Nations University Gender Working Group; (2016-2018); external reviewer, Intergovernmental Panel on Ecosystems and Biodiversity draft report; member of IUCN (Ethics Specialist group) working group on joint report on Trophy Hunting; Independent Consultant, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD); Project Co-coordinator, Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment Study in Fresco Lagoon, Cote d’Ivoire (Funded by West Africa Biodiversity and Climate Change and USAID); Lead Researcher for study on ‘the potential, uptake and business case (green business) for bamboo in Ghana as alternative biomass energy for households’, (funded by Ghana Climate Change Innovation Center and the World Bank); co-ordinator (UNU-INRA) for project on Pan-African College on Sustainable Cities (funded by Robert Bosch Foundation).

In addition to competitive grant application writing skill, building financial partnerships and overseeing implementation of funded projects, Ngozi has experience in engagement with civil society and decision makers at governmental, private sector and grass root levels; planning and management of large fora for stakeholder and academic exchanges; she is familiar with the dynamics and implementation of gender mainstreaming at all levels. She is also experienced in sharing and disseminating policy recommendations in addition to very strong experience in building local and international partnerships for the implementation of national and sub-regional policies. She has worked with international organizations in Africa and the Middle East; with missions in Anglophone and francophone countries within and outside Africa.

Ngozi Has a doctorate in International Environmental Law, Policy and Ethics from The University of Leicester, United Kingdom; a diploma in International Environmental Law from United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Geneva; first and second degrees in law for University of Benin, Nigeria; as well as other short courses related to Environmental Policy, Global Environmental Management, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Sustainable Cities, Protected Areas Management, International Water Law and Law of Aquifers, Waste Management and Ecosystem Services, International Environmental Governance.
